MERV measures how well a filter captures particles: higher numbers capture finer particles, and also restrict airflow more. Match the model number your system was built for rather than moving up on your own. If you are unsure, check your AprilAire unit or its manual before ordering a different MERV level.

How Often to Replace

Replacement timing depends on your AprilAire model, your home and how much your system runs. Follow the schedule in your AprilAire manual, and replace sooner if the filter looks heavily loaded or airflow drops.
