How to Replace an LG Refrigerator Water Filter (LT800P, LT120F & More)

If your LG refrigerator's water is starting to taste flat or the dispenser is running slower than usual, it's probably time for a new filter. Most LG models use a twist-out cartridge tucked inside the upper-right corner of the fridge compartment or behind the base grille, and the whole swap takes less than two minutes with no tools required.

How often to replace it

LG recommends replacing the filter roughly every 6 months, or sooner if your fridge's filter indicator light turns amber or red. Households on well water or with heavy dispenser use may need to replace it more often.

What you'll need

Your replacement filter (LT800P/LT800PC, LT120F, ADQ73613401, or ADQ73334008, depending on your model) and a towel for any drips.

Steps

1. Locate the filter — either inside the fresh food compartment (upper right, behind a small door) or behind the base grille at the bottom front of the fridge.
2. Turn the old filter counterclockwise about a quarter turn and pull it straight out. A little water may drip out — that's normal.
3. Remove the protective caps from the new filter if present, and check that the rubber O-rings are seated properly.
4. Insert the new filter into the housing and twist clockwise until it locks into place.
5. Run water through the dispenser for about 3–5 minutes to flush out any air and carbon fines before drinking it.
6. Reset the filter indicator light — usually by holding the “Water Filter” button on the dispenser panel for 3 seconds, though this varies slightly by model, so check your manual if the light doesn't reset.
