How to Replace a Levoit Air Purifier Filter (Core 300, 400S, 600S, Vital 100 & LV-H132)

Levoit's Core and Vital series purifiers all use a cylindrical or panel-style HEPA + activated carbon filter that sits behind the outer housing. The swap is quick, but there's one step people frequently miss that causes the machine to underperform right out of the gate.

How often to replace it

Levoit recommends replacing the filter every 6–8 months with regular use, or sooner if you run the purifier continuously or live somewhere with heavy dust, smoke, or pet dander. Most models show a filter-replacement reminder light after a set number of hours of use.

What you'll need

Your replacement filter for your specific model (Core 300, Core 400S, Core 600S, Vital 100, or LV-H132) — these are not interchangeable across models, so confirm your exact model number before ordering.

Steps

1. Unplug the purifier.
2. Remove the outer housing — on Core-series models this usually means twisting the base plate or lifting off the top grille, depending on the model; check the small arrows or unlock icons printed on the housing.
3. Lift out the old filter and dispose of it.
4. Unwrap the new filter completely — Levoit filters ship inside a plastic bag, and leaving it on is the single most common reason a “new” filter seems to do nothing. Remove all packaging before inserting.
5. Insert the new filter with the correct orientation — most have printed arrows showing airflow direction that should face the same way the old filter's did.
6. Reattach the housing until it clicks or locks, plug the purifier back in, and reset the filter-life reminder (usually by holding the power or filter-reset button for a few seconds — check your model's manual for the exact combination).
